On the North side of Iowa City,
on a bluff overlooking the Iowa River,
a new neighborhood is taking shape...
Conceived and built following the principles of Traditional Town Planning, The Peninsula Neighborhood will eventually contain over 400 new homes and available commercial space set amid parks, squares and tree-lined streets. This walkable place is the only new traditional neighborhood in Iowa City, and one of only a few in the Midwest.
There's a variety of projects underway right now in The Peninsula Neighborhood. We welcome you to explore the website and contact us for more information.
The Peninsula Neighborhood began with a courageous vision for a better place. Officials from the City of Iowa City wanted to create an alternative to the typical, cookie-cutter development so common throughout the country. They wanted a different kind of neighborhood, one that would be cherished by its owners for generations.
Iowa City residents supported this vision during a week-long gathering which included top town-planning experts. During the next four years, this innovative plan moved through a series of approvals and implementation steps, emerging filled with its original promise. The result? A plan for a vibrant, new neighborhood reminiscent of Iowa City's most beloved older neighborhoods.
